2021 Monthly Color Challenge – June

What is this year long plan?

The 2021 Monthly Color Challenge is in it’s fourth year, and I am excited to join in. This year we’re getting our inspiration from Fruits and Veggies.

Each month there is a change in colour and a new block. You can see all the colours to come this year at this post on Jen’s blog. Jen also shares all the info on what you need and you can choose to sign up to receive the block sent straight to your inbox.

My block for June

Here’s my block for June, the colour for this month is Orange for Pumpkin. There is a home near us who grows a pumpkin vine each year and I watch the progress as I walk past when exercising.

I have planned a consistent background of the dark charcoal grey and will be adding the feature colour color. There are a plethora of scraps in my studio so I have vowed to sew from them if I possibly can. This one required more orange than I had, it’s not a large feature in my fabric stash, so I used some fabric off a bolt in stock. Maybe think of those tiny cute pumpkins that are around, Maybe that’s what I need to try in my garden this year.

I decided a slice of pumpkin might be a little challenging to include in the photo.

So, if you are keen to sew along with us this year, there’s a layout design for you at the end of the year, head over to Jen’s blog and join in. The blocks are free for the release month, and you can have them sent to your inbox.

Oh and each block comes with a How To video right in the instructions. That’s pretty handy.

My Tip to you.

Do you chain piece? This is a great block for chain piecing. I also find chain piecing has a rhythm which can be soothing.

Recipe fun…

Pumpkin, very useful and the colour is great in many dishes.

My family are not so keen on this veggie, I am quite partial to roast pumpkin. Hubby and I like it lightly oiled so that when it roasted it starts to caramelise and the taste is concentrated. Yum!

Risotto is also another one that pumpkin can shine in. Homemade chicken stock and some fresh herbs, perfect for the winter months.

Do you have a favourite dish for pumpkin?

Want to join in? It’s not too late.
